Winnie : In a way, yes. After college, I taught for a while. I wanted to go back to painting, but I had to do
something to bring home the bacon. Well, I found some really good artists. We set up our own
Web site, and we started selling our painting on the Internet.
Christine: Really?
Winnie: Yes, we didn't really expect to turn a profit, but we hope to break even.
Christine: And?
Winnie: We got lots of work and make a killing.
Christine: Really?
Winnie: Yes, the customers are happy because they get their money's worth, and we're laughing all
the way to the bank.Christine: Great. You can take me to lunch.
Winnie: I'd love to! Where do you want to go? Money is no object.
- break even : to earn, or make, as much as you spend
- turn a profit: to earn, or make, more money than you spend
- bring home the bacon: to earn money to live on
- pull down( an amount of money ): to earn a lot of money
- clean up, also make a killing or strike it rich: to make a lot of money
- laughing all the way to the bank: making a lot of money easily
- in the money : to have (or suddenly get) a lot of money
- money talks : money is powerful
- get your money's worth : to get good value for the money you spend
- throw good money after bad: to continue to spend money on something that is failing
- throw money on something : to try to solve problem by just spending a lot of money on something
- money is no object : the cost of something is not important
- something costs an arm and a leg : something is too expensive
