Today is Tuesday, Sept. 14. It was sunny and cool with a gentle breeze. We would go to a job and career fair downtown on a field trip led by Teacher Joseph.
Joseph told us to meet in the Yonge-Sheppard subway station before 9:30am. I arrived there at 9 o'clock. While I was browsing the Metro newspaper, teacher Joseph came. As we were talking about the job fair, Selena, Zumurod,Irina and Agnes arrived. We waited until 9:40 for the other classmates before taking the southbound subway .
It was at St. Patrick Subway Station where we alighted from the train. Joseph led us to 23 Grange Road, where the University Settlement job fair was held.
The job fair was located in a basketball arena indoors. At the entrance, we registered and filled out the survey form. There were tables with cakes and juice. You could take them freely. There were many people inside who came early. So, it was very crowded. We had to line up at same booths. Too many positions and vacancies were available, like computer engineer, electronic engineer, marketing and sales, etc. We talked with them, asked the recruiter for the information, browsed their brochures... At one end of the wall, there was a row of tables against the wall. Some counselors were sitting there. They helped applicants prepare their resumes, advised them what kind of job they should apply for, and how to prepare for an interview.
Around 11:40, we finished and went to Chinatown and Kensington Market. Mr. Joseph led us to savour the fare of old China and the Latin-American neighbourhood.
It was a good field trip and worth sacrificing my time!
